Update on my mother. After her recent, really noticeable decline over the past three months, Mom is in the final stages of Alzheimers and her doctor recommends we start her with hospice. The good thing is that she can stay in her place at Parsons House where she is comfortable with her surroundings and the staff. Hospice will come 5 days a week to assist in her daily care, administer medicines and monitor her general health. Shes in pretty good spirits, just doesnt recognize me or her relationship to me. Still glad to see me but more as someone who seems to show up regularly, rather than her son. Her physical shape is really good, but she cant communicate coherently anymore and doesnt cooperate with the staff in getting dressed, going to the bathroom, getting in and out of her wheelchair etc. Its sad, but we knew all along this time would come.
