{Update on the Iron Infusion} For those of you that are interested or that commented on my last post. Heres the deal. I have been chronically anemic for years and I was always told to take iron supplements by my doctor. However, even after trying many different kinds of iron I either couldnt tolerate it (I would vomit or have severe nausea) or end up taking at least 6 pills a day, several at every meal. Was I perfect at keeping up?? NO...and overall it didnt help. Here is the list of the general symptoms of anemia.. Symptoms of moderate to severe iron-deficiency anemia may include: •Extreme fatigue (I have this) •Pale skin •Weakness (and this) •Shortness of breath •Chest pain •Frequent infections (Ive had at times had a respiratory illness every six weeks for about six months) •Headache •Dizziness or lightheadedness ( occasionally) •Cold hands and feet (ALL THE TIME) •Inflammation or soreness of your tongue •Brittle nails •Fast heartbeat •Unusual cravings for non-nutritive substances, such as ice, dirt or starch (OH YES....I eat ice like its going out of style) •Poor appetite, especially in infants and children with iron deficiency anemia •An uncomfortable tingling or crawling feeling in your legs (restless legs syndrome) *My metabolism is really really slow...my reading uncovered that your metabolic processes require iron at every step...low iron = slow metabolism....I should of had this YEARS ago when I first found out I was anemic. * Also really heavy menstrual cycles are involved here. Now I have other medical issues including my thyroid that compound all of this and I wont get into it BUT if you have any of these symptoms and especially if you are a women of a certain age you should definitely get checked. The infusion itself was easy...I chose to do the ONE time infusion which carries a bit more risk of a side effect( I had none) or you can go once a week for about 5-6 wks. It depends on what you and your doctor decide. You go into a clinic, get an IV and I had to take some Benadryl and Tylenol in case I had an allergic reaction, then I hung out under heated towels for about 2 hours. I looked at magazines and actually fell asleep. Iron deficiency is really common and easily treatable. I tagged everyone that commented on my prior post. If I can be of ANY help please feel free to message me or comment below. Much LOVE!!!
