Update time everyone :) As we begin the third week since We Are - TopicsExpress

Update time everyone :) As we begin the third week since We Are ONE was formed, we are proud to announce that we are now sitting at almost 1,200 members. Tau Kē! (Awesome!) At the very least, we are grateful that this group has raised awareness of homelessness here in Perth. Please continue to spread this message with your friends and family. As promised, here is a brief update and report on what has developed since our last notice to the members (pinned at the top of the page). We had our first meeting last Sunday and the key discussion points were around the vision, purpose, direction, short and long term goals of We Are One. Unfortunately these are not going to be answered overnight. We have spent most of our time looking into what services and support groups are currently out there, what they offer, how they operate, how they work together and whether there are gaps or additional support needed that we may be able to fill. It is important to us that we do not overlap services already available to the homeless, especially if they are working. This is another long process but an important one because we want to know that what we are offering is of value to the homeless themselves and the support groups’ community. Most of you are aware that we are kiwis and our members are predominantly kiwi. We Are One (as the name suggests) is NOT an exclusive kiwi group and we welcome all cultures and people to this group. As part of our efforts to not duplicate what other charities are doing, we have identified that there is a need for additional support to our kiwi homeless people due to the limited resources and assistance available to them as non-permanent residents or citizens. We are a proud people and asking for help is not something we like to do. We want to reach out to them and let them know we’re here, we care and we will do what we can to help. The ‘We Are One’ name has already hit the streets and our homeless people are hearing about us. We have already been approached by kiwis asking for our help. We have done whatever we could with the resources and supplies we had but we are still in our infancy and we do not want to raise hopes, offer or make promises to our homeless that we cannot keep. For this reason, we are working very hard to get things done so we have the knowledge and resources ready and available. As always, we will keep you informed as much as we can. Although we are not yet permitted to do certain things, it doesnt mean we can’t do anything. We have an incredible challenge coming up and we are really excited about this. This is definitely something you can do right now and we are hoping….actually we are confident that the participants of this challenge will not just reach the We Are One members, the Perth or even Australia audiences. Let’s see how far we can send this whanau! Share! Share! Share! A special thanks to Pauline who saw this challenge and immediately thought of us and knew it would benefit our cause. Until next time whanau… “Helping someone who might need it, creates a bridge to love. We are one.” Djinn Ga Fairbairn.
