Urgent Request to Contact Legislators We thank you for your calls on or before Tue. June 19th. Attention all Massachusetts acupuncturists, students, and patients: We need your help! Action Step for "An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture" (Bills SD876 & HD939 Our Lobbyist Dan Delaney, Rep Smitty Pignatelli and Rep Sanchez (Chairman of the Committee on Public Health) will meet next Tuesday, in hopes of getting our bill heard in the early fall instead of in late December by the Public Health Committee. Please reach out to your legislator (Senator and State Rep)on or before Tue. June 19th and ask them to request that the joint committee on public health hear our bill "An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture" at an earlier hearing date and to report the bill out of committee favorably (approve it). Contacts with legislators by you and your clients in support of the bill will influence the Representative to have our testimony before the Public Health Committee at a better/earlier time and be approved by the committee. Who do I call? Call both your state representative and/or state senator, find yours at this link. https://malegislature.gov/people/findmylegislator What do I say? I am a Massachusetts Licensed Acupuncturists/Student/Patient and I am calling to register my support of Bill# SD867 (in the Senate) or HD393 (in the House), "An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture." I am asking for an earlier hearing by the Public Health Committee and a favorable report from that committee. These two bills seek to accomplish three goals: 1. Prompt the Department of Public Health to convene a special commission to investigate the effective integration of acupuncture and oriental medicine into new practice models and payment methodologies under health care reform; 2. Ensure that acupuncturists are able to be fairly reimbursed for their services by insurance plans in Massachusetts; and 3. Ensure that only licensed acupuncturists with appropriate training are allowed to use acupuncture techniques in Massachusetts (i.e., dry needling) Any questions regarding this legislation can be addressed directly to Naomi Alson, Insurance Task Force Committee Chair. See AOMSM.org for more on the bill. We thank you for your calls on or before Tue. June 19th.
