¡VAMOS! Festival We are very pleased to announce that the Research Centre for Film and Digital Media, Newcastle Universityand the Americas Research Group have a special screening of Kachkaniraqmi (I am still here) at the Side Cinema on 25 October at 4pm. The screening will be followed by a special Q&A session with award-winning documentary film director Javier Corcuera as part of a series of activities dedicated to documentary film this year. Javier Corcuera (1967) is a prolific Peruvian/Spanish film maker. Chiapas, the voice of the rebels (1998) The Back of the World (2000), Every second in the World (Daughters of Belen) (2004), Winter in Bagdad (2005), Invisibles (with Javier Bardem)(2007) Check Point Rock (songs from Palestine) (2009) and I am still here (2012) are all expressions of his ability to take the audience as close as possible to the lives, joys and concerns of people in different situations of marginality in a moving and delicate way. He has filmed in places as diverse as the Saharahui dessert, Stockholm, the floating slums of Iquitos, or the streets of occupied Palestine, with respect and the will to share the experience of the characters in his films. Kachqaniraqmi is a film about musicians, their stories, the stories they tell with their music, and their relationship with the vast and spectacular Peruvian territory. It is a celebration of life through music. Corcuera travels with these musicians reconstructing the journeys that have been crucial in their lives showing the complexities, fissures and beauty of Peruvian diverse cultures and identities. vamosfestival/2013/09/kachkaniraqmi-screening-with-javier-corcuera/
