VERSE OF THE WEEK Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Fruit is singular suggesting the unified Christ-like character that the Holy Spirit produces. This fruit comes in nine delicious flavors. Fruit are the behavior manifestations of the driving forces within the Christian: LOVE (agape, self-sacrificing affection for others) Joy (deep-seated gladness regardless of circumstances) Peace (inner quietness and tranquility, calm regardless of circumstances) Patience (forbearance even under provocation) Kindness (benevolence and graciousness) Goodness (constructive action reaching out to others) Faithfulness (reliability, trustworthiness) Gentleness (acquiescence to authority and consideration of others) Self-control (ability to master oneself) Paul is not so concerned with precisely how each of these matters works out in practice, but with the underlying orientation of selfless and outgoing concern for others. For in commitment to God through Jesus Christ one discovers a new orientation for life: an orientation that reflects the selfless and outgoing love of God himself. Christian character is not mere moral or legal correctness, but the possession and manifestation of the graces of Galatians 5:22-23. Taken together they present a moral portrait of Christ, and may be understood as the apostles explanation of Galatians 2:20. - See more at: mobileshalom/family-love.html#sthash.CJ8dEwyU.dpuf
