VERY DEEP: [RuleofLaw-Nigeria] THIS Demo-crazy called Democracy IN NIGERIA - by: Ocholi O. Okutepa - November 11, 2014 As I find myself stuck in traffic because Mr. President is making a public declaration of an already public fact. The fact that he wants another term of office, I peep outside my car....., The sight is appalling! I see old men and women, whose purpose on the streets, wearing uniforms, caps and scarf is not one to spell hope for their own future, however long more it remains or for their childrens; I see a lost generation who have become part of a paid crowd. I see a generation who have no legacy for the next and who are searching for a feed till the grave! Pardon my seeming disrespectful expression towards the elderly, pain has no shame, I am pained and I am not ashamed to say the truth! Then I see young men and women, dancing to discordant tunes on bus tops, summersaulting blocked roads and rolling many a waist in erotic vigour; tunes that tell the sorry tale of a woeful forecast for their own future. I see men and women whose honour is reduced to travelling several miles, maybe thousands of them to be foolish for another mans dream! I see danger in this altogether unassuming show. I see an unholy alliance of illiteracy, crude democracy and future- defeating drama on the scene. I see a sold-out crowd of people, drawn from every state of the Federation, not for a conviction they hold about political ideology, performance or support of a program, but for a people gathered for a gain they hope to get. I see a generation whose belly is bigger than their brain and who are commonly available for the highest bidder. O, I even see a generation who can put their lives on the line for cheap value. I see danger, I see a Country who going forward prefer back-slides! I pause and I wonder..... Hush! Dont tell me about faith! Im not a believer in fate though! Dont tell me about change when we keep doing the same thing and hoping the change will come! Tell me about your plans, tell me about your own input and the steps you are taking to be one less bad Nigerian; because you are the good one! After all, isnt faith dead without works? I love Nigeria! I believe in Nigeria but we have to be the change before we speak of change! Share the passion, New Nigeria will emerge someday, lets believe!!! *Ocholi O.
