VICTOR HAS ARRIVED... Project Polar will open at 12 noon today. The first phase of Project Polar is now open. Project Polar is not just one of the world’s largest reserves for these great white bears but a dynamic initiative for conservation, welfare and research. Our first bear is Victor, a 15 year old bear who has been retired from the European breading programme. Another two male bears are due to arrive before the end of the year. Yorkshire Wildlife Park aims to increase and improve animal welfare in captivity and in the wild and will be fundraising through the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation. Project Polar has the capacity to offer homes to bears outside Europe who may be kept in substandard conditions, possibly hot climates.
