VIDEO: Small storm brings heavy rain in Holyoke CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The summer season is half way over and western Massachusetts is still dealing with heavy rain and strong gusts of winds. Late Friday evening, a small storm passed through Hampden County bringing heavy rain but no warnings were issued. An Area Flood Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for parts of western Mass. and quickly cancelled. This is the second consecutive day of scattered showers in the area. For the past few weeks, severe weather has caused heavy tree damages and power outages throughout because of heavy downpours, hail, strong winds, and thunderstorms. Friday night’s storm may have caused a lightning strike that caused 1,200 customers in Westfield to lose power; while in the afternoon, a pop-up thunderstorm brought down a tree on top of four parked cars in South Hadley. The video above was recorded by 22News anchor Julian Mazza who was in Holyoke as the storm was passing. Follow the 22News Storm Team for the latest weather updates on-air and on WWLP.
