VIRUS ALERT As you all know Im not in the habit or raising false alarms or panicking because of supposed computer attacks. The title is to get your attention for a possible menace before any of you fall into the trap. I just received a phone call, only language spoken was English, supposedly from a Californian sub-contractor to Microsoft. The telephone was answered by Patricia and she passed it to me as the gentleman on the linE didnt speak French. The gentleman asked if I was the owner of the telephone, I asked who he was and he again stated the name of his company in California and the fact that they are sub-contractors to MS. Odd that a company that has more than 500 French employees couldnt find one to do this job! Also he had a sort of mixed accent, a touch of Indian and a touch of Chinese. Anyway, the Gentleman asked for my computer ID, I told him he could not have it unless he sent me a postal letter identifying his company and requesting contact. Anyway he insisted and I listened till Id had enough, he reckoned he could see a computer running Vista in my house, but he certainly couldnt because I dont have any Vista installations. When I asked how many computers he could see at my house he said more than one, good guess, I have maybe 23. Anyway, the point is, DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION CONCERNING ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE no matter what the other person says. Only letters by the post have the possibility of being for real. Can you really imagine MS telephoning every windows user on the planet? Signing off Dave
