VISITING PHOENIX? DITCH THE TOURIST SPOTS AND CHECK OUT THESE 42 SAINT FAVORITES.... GOOGLE these places for more info. Here we go, in no particular order: Musical Instrument Museum - MIM, largest of its type in the world. If you love rock and roll, classical or Lithuanian folk music theyve got you covered. Amazing collection of memorabilia from famous musicians from around the world...Jimmy Page guitars, Elvis stage outfits, Beethovens piano, etc... you get the picture. Plus a live music venue and booze! Check it out. Rick Bronsons House of Comedy on High Street AZ in North Phoenix. $15-$20 tickets (cant beat that!), national touring comics, great drinks and food. Laugh your ass off for a couple hours and hit the streets happy...and of course, dont forget to stroll down the street to 42 Saint. La Bocca Wine Bar & Urban Kitchen, also coincidentally on High Street in North Phoenix. I dont know if this is how Julian and Mark (the owners) would describe it, but I mean it as high praise, when I say it reminds me of a combination of Pizzeria Bianco and Postinos. Amazing artisan pizzas, bruschetta & appetizers and a fantastic wine list. Weve sent about 600 people over there in the last 9 months and all but three really angry women loved it...597 outta 600 is pretty good. When youre done, drag your satiated asses across the street to, wait...for...it...42 SAINT! The city of Cave Creek, Arizona, just a few miles north of the 101 hwy off of Scottsdale road (google map it), is kind of like the Old Town Scottsdale scene but for grown ups and people who arent trying sooo hard. Very chill, good time hopping from bar to bar. Great restaurants from high end (17 star Binkleys Restaurant) to greasy spoons (check out Big Earls Greasy Eats...great beer and burgers in an old gas station). Sports bars, country bars, meat market bars, bars where you can actually ride a LIVE bull...not a sleepy electric bull riding machine, but rather pissed off bulls who dont like you at Buffalo Chip Saloon & Steakhouse. ROCK STAR gallery, the best reason to go to Kierland Commons. One of the best places in the country to find art of and by rock stars, and signed memorabilia & photographs...just an all around cool place to check out. Michael and the boys will help you get your rock star on! Greasewood Flat, the quintessential Arizona experience about to disappear forever. Forget that Grand Canyon place! This used to be an outpost of the Pony Express in the late 1800s (at least thats what I tell everyone...and if it wasnt, it should have been) an open air, old timey honkytonk with several outdoor bars, fire pits, horse shoes, a weird collection of random animals and an outdoor stage for live music. Eclectic crowd, Ive met NASA scientists there, Kris Kristofferson, that chick that sang for Garbage, Shirley something, and a ton of lawyers, bikers and very friendly ladies. Hurry to check it out because the money men have stepped in and bought up all 100 acres and are going to put huge McMansions all over it after they dynamite Greasewoods in March. Thats the word anyway...a friggin travesty. Thinking about going to Sedona? Then dont. Go to Jerome, Arizona instead, or at the very least ALSO go to Jerome. You cant beat the view! It sits up the side of Cleopatra mountain, looking down on the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. Mining and brothels were the main industry here in the 1800s and into the early 1900s. Now its turned into an artist colony of sorts, along with some great eats and bars. The Spirit Room has live music and cheap drinks. Its not slick like Sedona, still has a ghost town feel! Its also home to Caduceus Cellars tasting room- a great place for some amazing Arizona wines. Ask for Brian, he knows his shit! Between Jerome and Sedona is the Verde Valley Wine Trail with several tasting rooms in Cottonwood. Its the center of the now nationally known Northern Arizona wine region and is a funky, little town in its own right. Make sure to check out the historic downtown where it is all happening. Jen, Amy and I have got a million more ideas, but Ive got to get in shower now and get down to 42 SAINT, the coolest clothing store in the western United States. Come in and we will give you some more places to go. See ya, Mark
