Vacation Day 4 Roundup: Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park - Today we explored the Porkies. We needed gas so we drove 7 miles to White Pine to find a 1 pump "gas station". The gas station was also a gift shop/tanning salon/bowling ally/restaurant/motel all in one building. It was the craziest place. Next we stopped to have a picnic lunch. All fueled up we headed to Presque Isle to check out the Manabezho, Manido and Nawadaha Falls which were gorgeous! Next up was Overlooked Falls at Little Carp River. Then we decided to do a 5 mile round trip hike to see Mirror Lake. While the lake was not worth the hike it was a pretty funny hike looking back on it now. Dave kept running ahead of me because black flies kept swarming his head. He finally asked to use my hoodie which he had previously mocked me for packing. He wore just the hood part over his head to keep the flies off his head. But i kept laughing because he looked like Sasquatch running in the forest with just the hoodie on his head. Then we went to Lake of the Clouds which was breath taking. The sun was perfect with blue skies and a few clouds over the lake. After all that we were exhausted and headed back to camp and made dinner. Then we made a fire and some Jiffy Pop popcorn A perfect way to round out adventure filled day.
