Verified Celebrity (Author) My name is Melissa Martin. I’m from New Jersey. I’m a writer and poet This is my story. I was born December 14, 1989 at University Hospital in Newark, Nj at 6:04pm. My mother’s name is Veronica Martin. I wasn’t breathing for the first ten minutes of birth but the doctors saved me and I’m here today. I left the hospital on December 28th. I was always a bright child so full of life. Ever since I was young I wanted to be a teacher but it turns out God had a different plan for me. I was put into modeling at only six months old by my mother and grandmother Catherine Martin. I had no clue what I was doing being I was so young. Once I started in grammar school I really got into poetry and writing. I wrote my first poem at age 12 and the title of it was Love and it went like this: Love is like a flower Always gaining power Never going sour Each day it gets better Even if it’s in a letter It will always get better Love will never end If you understand that it can never end. Nobody ever knew I was writing these the only people who knew where my family. I would sit up in my rooms for hours upon hours just writing and making up songs. Oh in case I haven’t mentioned I do write my own songs. Anyway one day in school in the fourth grade our English teacher gave us an assignment to write a real life poem. Since I already written one I already know what to do. She also wanted us to read it. I wasn’t scared at all it came kind of naturally for me. This is the poem I wrote for that assignment. I would always love to To outside But then I would have To go and hide Even have someone by My side I would have five girls that Would put gum In my hair It was just not fair They even smelled like rum Some even looked Like bums They made me live in fair To torment me like that Without even know I cared Or was scared Why is life so unfair? You can probably guess what it’s about but yes it’s about bullying. I’ve been bullied my whole life. Music and writing was my escape and passion. My teacher loved it and saw how good I was that she recommended I keep writing and get them published so guess what now they are. At age sixteen they were having try outs for our school musical The Wiz and I thought it would be cool to try out so I did. We had to wait three days to see if we got in. On that Friday I got told I was in. I didn’t get one of the major parts but what counts is that I tired and had fun performing for others. They also aired it on television so it was cool looking back after our shows where done and singing along and going “oh the memories and fun we had.” In my junior year of high school they were holding try outs for the musical Annie. Now let me just tell you this was my musical. I lived on it and it was filmed where I was born. So anyway I tried out and got a major part. Everyone had a blast with this one. We took so many photos and videos and sang our hearts out. I love what I do and making people happy. Performing is my life. It makes me happy and I hope that this dream will never end. Many people will tell you that dreams don’t come but they do
