Very few things still surprise me when it comes to politics in Nigeria; the reason I am not in the least amazed that Christopher Alao Akala aims once more to govern Oyo State. I will also not be surprised at all if he wins come February 2015 (why should I, when Fayose could win again in Ekiti?). What however irks me is that the major justification Akalas henchmen and other blind Oyo citizens propound for the intended coming back of the former governor is that he is a personally generous man, that money flowed (I dont know where to) during his term tenure, that many people who sought his personal assistance got. Not many of them can lay hands on much infrastructural developments emanating from the white mans rule... Now I ask: those people who never had and would never have had any direct access to the governor, what would have been their own share of the dividends of democracy? I have just grown tired of these form of campaign strategy which our people keep falling for. This strategy that worked in Ekiti at least and almost worked in Osun. Isnt development supposed to be for all and not a connected few? It is high time we started being interested in what the candidate has for the populace and not his personal attributes. I lived in Ibadan when Akala was governor and I can swear by God that what Ibadan (at least) now is, can by far be called sanity compared to the inanity that ruled in the 2006-2011 tenure. I am not saying Ajimobi must be returned compulsorily, I am just saying if Akala is the alternative, then, there is no alternative at all!
