Very proud of our own lactation expert Lisa Amir who this week had an article on managing common breastfeeding problems in the community published in the respected BMJ. A/Prof Amir, herself a general practitioner, writes that general practitioners play a key role in managing breastfeeding problems in the community and her BMJ article is a must read. For instance, it highlights the common pitfalls for good attachment, such as: Mother’s body leaning over infant • Infant lying on back (as if bottle feeding) • Infant’s body too far from mother’s body, unsupported • Mother lifting up breast (she can support the breast, but it shouldn’t move if she lets go) • Mother holding the back of the infant’s head • Infant attaching to nipple, rather than to breast You can read more the BMJ article here: bit.ly/1k3tYOk
