Very sad to hear about the demise and tragedy this week of the Alt - TopicsExpress

Very sad to hear about the demise and tragedy this week of the Alt Festival. It must be really hard for all those who had bought tickets or funded the Kickstarter or who had booked holidays or plane tickets etc. Having read the organisers reasoning, it is easy to see how the festival had overreached themselves in their enthusiasm to put on an exciting new alternative festival. We were originally asked to play Alt festival 2014 and we even agreed a vastly reduced fee without a deposit, in the spirit of helping along a crowd led alternative festival. But the organisers found out that we were playing Whitby Goth Weekend and postponed our 2014 booking until Alt Festival 2015. We were disappointed but at the same time were really looking forward to the festivals success and performing next year - after all whats a year when you have been going for 35? I am sure there are lessons to be learned from this, having recently returned from Leipzigs very successfully and established Wave Gottic Treffen festival, the idea of a UK based alternative festival is not an unreasonable proposition. The best festivals seem to evolve from humble beginnings and year by year gain momentum - maybe Alt should have followed the Rebellion, WGT, and dare I say Glastonbury route of modest and steady growth. Its hard getting things on and making them work in this end of the music business, mine and all our hearts go out to everyone affected. As bad as it is, the tragedy is no match for Gaza and other strife across the globe - so lets get real and move forward! See you at Rebellion on Saturday!!
