#Victoria #Weather #SevereWarning #VIC #CTCorp 7:39pm Update:~~SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING or DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the North East and parts of the East Gippsland, Northern Country and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts. Issued at 7:39 pm Monday, 24 November 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Shepparton, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Corryong, Bright and Falls Creek. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central and North Central districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. A wind gust of 122 km/hr was recorded at Mt Buller from a line of thunderstorms at 4:30pm. A wind gust of 100 km/hr was recorded at Shepparton Airport from a line of thunderstorms at 3:30pm. A wind gust of 98 km/hr was recorded at Swan Hill Airport from a thunderstorm at 2:05pm. The SES advises that rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas may contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks. People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslide and debris on roads. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home. * keep away from creeks and drains. * do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. * stay indoors if possible. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees * listen to the radio for storm updates * switch off your computer and electrical appliances The next warning is due to be issued by 10:40 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
