#VideoAnalytics Cisco introduced a set of new and existing capabilities that they are using routers to bring big-data analysis to the edges of networks, where some types of data may be priceless for a few seconds but not worth storing or sending to a cloud. Basically, Cisco video analytics targets real stores of retail industry. How video analytics can improve operations?Cisco described a deployment at an unnamed warehouse-type retail store and Cisco deployed systems that crunched video data locally to help with inventory tracking and staffing. The store trained video cameras on shelves to watch product availability more effectively than point-of-sale systems could. By doing so, It is not necessary for employees to check every product in and out in the POS. Also, video analytics prevents running errors such as returns. If employee put the returned, unopened item to the shelf, the stores labor costs went down because staffers werent wasting time restocking shelves that didnt need it, Also, Cisco video analytics can predict when checkout lines would start to get crowed based on the stores data. So store could call more employees to the front of the store when the lines got crowded. Who will be next industry major player to announce its analytics solutions?
