Vietnamese bulk carrier pulls out off grounding position in Legazpi, Albay DOTC-PCG: The Vietnamese-flagged bulk carrier, that drifted along the shoreline of Barangay San Roque, was finally able to pull out of its grounding position yesterday. MV Minh Tuan 68 managed to move from its grounding area around 10:50PM yesterday when the sea level was high enough for its propeller to swing and maneuver the ship out of its grounding position. The vessel then steered to Legazpi City Port Anchorage Area in Albay where it dropped anchor 0.4NM northeast off Legaspi Port. MV Minh Tuan 68 washed ashore off Barangay San Roque in Legazpi City due to strong waves brought about by Tropical Storm Gorio last Saturday, 29 June. The 2,999GT Minh Tuan 68 was anchored at the Legazpi Port Anchorage Area and was reportedly under the custody of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) since September for smuggling 94,000 bags of rice from Vietnam. Meanwhile, all five crew of Minh Tuan 68 refused to leave the vessel when Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) tried to rescue them from the vessel to be turned-over to BoC-V for temporary shelter and safety purposes. They were, however, found to be in stable condition and the Coast Guard continuously monitored the crew through VHF radio.
