Visions of Death - Part One Undiluted fear shook him as the tactician woke. Utter darkness met him as his eyes focused in the darkness. Immediately, his shoulders were grasped, firmly, but cautiously. “Tensa!? What is the matter?” Unmistakably, it was the voice of Panne. Concern thoroughly accented her voice. His hands shook as he steadied himself. “Panne?” He asked. “I’m sorry, did I wake you?” Panne’s eyes soften, if just barely. “I can still hear your heart beat much faster than it normally does. You’re covered in sweat as well.” She examined. “A nightmare?” Slowly, her hands relaxed their grip. “Y-yeah.” Tensa sighed. The two laid back down on their bed, Panne on her side, watching the tactician breathe. “I’ve never seen such a reaction from you in all these years.” In a fake smile, Tensa nodded. “I’ve never… Had such a dream before.” However, the Taguel did not seem pleased. “If you wish, we can go out herb hunting tomorrow.” She suggested. “I can help make you the sleep medicine I gave Lon’qu.” Tensa tilted his head. “Really?” He asked, astounded. “Besides our sparring matches, I’ve never known him to have nightmares.” Panne closed her eyes. “Then it shouldn’t be my place to comment.” “Thanks, Panne.” Tensa rolled into her. “But hopefully, this is only a one-time thing.” “What was the dream about?” He grimaced. “Of war.” Curiously, Panne rested her head extremely close to Tensa’s, their eyes nearly all the both could see. “The war with Valm?” Tensa shook his head. “No. I’m unfamiliar with the battle I dreamt.” Panne closed her eyes, resting them. “Your heart is calm again.” She opened her eyes. “If these nightmares persist, I want you to consider taking my medicine, mate.” “Of course.” He smiled. However, something told him that the dreams were not over. Sleep fell amongst the two again. Fire, smoke, and sparks began to flood in from the fringes of Tensa’s mind. Before he knew it, he was lost in his own dreams, looking around at a blazing battlefield. He found Vaike, a large axe in hand, swing down a fatal blow on the body of a corpse, a Risen. Stalh, on horseback, rode up behind him, a lance piercing a bundle of electricity fired from a mage Risen in the distance, dispelling it. Mouths moved, but Tensa could do nothing, realizing he wasn’t in control of his own body. A soundless explosion rocked the ground, taking the other two Shepherds off guard as well. He ran forward, examining the cause. As arrows rained down from his flanks on Risen, he bent down over a slightly burned Gregor, his hair comically singed. He laughed, then rushed into the battlefield once more. Walking around, he watched his allies fight, occasionally sending blasts of wind with Rexcalibur into the enemy flanks, making sure his friends could pierce the enemy’s defenses. A noiseless large blast, most likely from Bolganone, caught the Tactician off guard, knocking him back several feet, his robes burnt. Disorientated, he stumbled back as Frederick and Sully raced past him, defending the Shepherds’ flank from a new wave of Risen. Clad in armor, Donnel appeared soon after, extending a hand to the down to the Tactician. However, just before he could pull him up, blood dripped from his mouth as an arrow caught his back, piercing his armor in a weak point. Frantically shocked to its senses, Tensa’s body made to reach up for Donnel. Daylight struck Tensa in the face, waking him up. Groggy, but alert enough to tell the time by the sun, it was already afternoon. Cursing subtly, he propped himself up, the vision of the wounded Donnel still fresh in his mind. “Another nightmare.” He muttered. Noticing that his wife had long since rose for the day, Tensa muttered as he dressed himself in casual white garb His children, in observation, were soundless, and most likely out at play. “Yeah… I should ask Lon’qu to see how well this medicine works…” He thought to himself. “Oh, but I should also visit Chrom today too…” He added, setting off.
