Visited the Co-optex HQ at Egmore yesterday and learnt so much - TopicsExpress

Visited the Co-optex HQ at Egmore yesterday and learnt so much about Tamilnadus weavers and their co operative societies. Loved the various initiatives taken by Co-Optex. The sarees carry a tag with the photograph of the weaver who painstakingly hand weaves them over many days. In this age of machine made clothes, these sarees and clothes carry a personal story of struggle and grit to keep these traditions alive. Got to know that many weaving traditions in Tamilnadu are on the last leg of fading away into oblivion because the young generation of weaving families arent interested in continuing this due to intensive hand work and un attractive returns in terms of profit and recognition. Co Optex has 200 outlets across India (down from 600) and doesnt manage to attract the young generation as much as the elderly, repeat customers. They even have a team of NIFT-Chennai designers working on bringing innovative designs. (This is not a paid post/not an ad or endorsement but just my appreciation and support for our weavers)
