Vitamins C & E May Reduce Breast Cancer Recurrence by 27%: This study followed breast cancer patients in the USA for 2 years after diagnosis and found that women taking vitamin C supplements had a 27% reduced risk of breast cancer recurrence, while vitamin E users had a 29% reduced risk of breast cancer recurrence. Interestingly, vitamin E users also had a significant 24% decreased risk of death from all causes. However, users of combination carotenoid supplements actually saw a doubling of the risk of death from breast cancer and 75% greater risk of death from all causes (this was not the case for pure beta carotene which appeared to have no effect). Thus, taking vitamins C and E appear to be helpful to breast cancer patients but carotenoid supplements should be avoided. This paper is free full text and I highly recommend you read it, as it contains many useful details (for example, radiation therapy patients seemed to get significantly more benefit than chemotherapy patients from taking C & E. Also, zinc and selenium appear to have some benefit but not statistically significant.) onlinelibrary.wiley/doi/10.1002/cncr.26526/full
