WARNER CALLS FOR 9 DAYS OF MOURNING Media Release Nine Days of Mourning for our Nation The Independent Liberal Party (ILP) is calling on all citizens to wear something black for the next nine days as we mourn the fate of our nation at the hands of the new Cabinet of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The Cabinet which is the largest in the history of our country with 29 Cabinet Ministers and six non-Cabinet Ministers, as of today’s reshuffle, does nothing to inspire hope of a brighter day. Instead it stirs a sense of doom and gloom. It is a travesty that non-performing ministers who should have been relieved of their portfolios have been shifted to other ministries where they will continue to plunder the treasury as they continue to draw a salary for non-performance. It is a further assault on the Treasury that in order to make “jobs for the boys” new ministries were created by the splitting and redefinition of portfolios just so that those non-performers could “eat ah food”. These new and reorganized ministries will only force greater expenses on our taxpayers while delivering little or nothing in return. It is depressing to see that ministers who ground their ministries to a halt have now been unleashed in new ministries where they will only do the same. It is frightening that in several of the appointments the ministers have no background, professional or otherwise, in the portfolios to which they are now assigned. Once again, the Prime Minister has turned a deaf ear to the voice of the people who have been clamouring for the dismissal of several ministers of her cabal yet she has chosen to retain them. Once again the people have been disappointed In these dark days and the ones ahead, the ILP calls on citizens to unite and to express our collective disgust at this abuse of government and affront to the nation by the People’s Partnership. In this regard, we call on all right-thinking, civic-minded citizens to speak out by all lawful means available and to wear something black for the next nine days.
