AURELIO ANGELINI (BILINGUE: ENGLISH E ITALIANO) Call for papers The eighth edition of the International Summer School in Migration, Human Rights and Democracy, organized by the University of Palermo, focuses on the issues of ‘human mobility’ and ‘hidden geographies’, including the following topics: • Ethnography, life stories, collections of oral and written memories/narratives of forced migration from/within the transit countries of the following regions (but not limited to): the Mediterranean, Turkish-Greece transit, and Rio Grande, including the potential destination countries in Continental Europe and UK. • Theoretical and/or empirical contribution to ‘the new mobility paradigms’ (Cresswell 2006; Hannam et al. 2006; Sheller and Urry 2006). • Perspectives of new forms, practices, material and representation of human mobility/migration. • Citizenship, transnationalism, diaspora, borders. • Drought, soil erosion, desertification, deforestation, global warming, war, poverty, environmental disasters, climate changes. The main aim of the school is to facilitate opportunities for direct exchange of ideas between students and researchers, including activists and members of the civil society. In a six-day residential program, the school arranges lectures of distinguished professors, presentations of the participants’ papers as well as various personal face to face interactions, fruitful exchange of knowledge and ideas, vivid discussion and other forms of interactions between the participants. Languages: Italian, English. Submission Guidelines Advanced Master and PhD students, early career researchers as well as civil society activists are welcome. Selected participants will be notified until May 5th, 2014. The school fee (100 euros) should be paid before May 16th, 2014. La 8° edizione della Summer School Migrants, Human Rights and Democracy, dell’Università degli studi di Palermo, è dedicata al tema delle “mobilità umane”. Nello specifico, sono ben accolti contributi teorico-analitici ed empirici (in italiano e/o in inglese) che si soffermano sui seguenti nodi concettuali: • Etnografie, storie di vita, raccolte di memorie/narrati orali e scritti provenienti da migranti in movimento a causa di fattori di spinta dai paesi di provenienza: dal Mediterraneo, al passaggio Turchia-Grecia, Europa Continentale-Regno Unito, Rio Grande. • Riflessioni teoriche e/o contributi empirici sul nuovo paradigma delle mobilità, riferito alle comunità migranti. • Prospettive inerenti forme, pratiche, contesti materiali e rappresentazioni delle mobilità umane/migrazioni. • Cittadinanza, transnazionalismo, diaspora, confini e generi. • Siccità, erosione del suolo, desertificazione, deforestazione riscaldamento globale, guerre, povertà, disastri ambientali e cambiamenti climatici. MODALITÀ DI PARTECIPAZIONE I Contributors, interessati alla presentazione/pubblicazione di un lavoro di ricerca, devono inviare un abstract (max 500 parole) e la domanda di partecipazione (in formato doc/pdf) entro il 30 aprile 2014 a Elisabetta Di Giovanni [email protected]. I partecipanti selezionati riceveranno notifica entro il 5 maggio 2014 e dovranno inviare la ricevuta di iscrizione (in formato pdf) entro il 16 maggio 2014. Il saggio definitivo (compreso tra le 6000-7000 parole, con sistema di citazioni in Chicago style B) dovrà essere inviato allo stesso indirizzo email entro la prima settima di luglio.
