WARWICK SHAKESPEARE SOCIETY As our name suggests, Shakesoc is a society which celebrates the Bard’s works – everything from his plays to his sonnets - we love everything Shakespeare related! Throughout the year the society tends to put on two plays through which different adaptations and approaches to his work are explored. They are also a really great way of getting to know people and have fun! We also have workshops run by the exec, society members and external practitioners/actors. Shakesoc is much more than your typical performance society and is also interested in educating the community about Shakespeare’s work. We currently have links with Arnold Lodge School and are in the process of setting up regular workshops with a local primary school in Leamington. Another vital part of our society is of course its socials, which see us meeting up in the Duck, heading off for pub crawls (Shakespeare themed costumes of course!), seeing plays and films both at the Arts Centre and wider afield; we try and make as much use of our proximity to Stratford-upon-Avon as possible! All in all, we’re a very friendly and approachable club which has something for nearly everyone. As joint Workshop and Education Officer I help to organise and run the different workshops we hold for both students at the university and the wider community. We also try and get different speakers, practitioners and students to lead workshops. Beth Fiducia-Brooks, 2nd Year
