*** WE ONLY HAVE TODAY *** We look not at the things which are seen, he said, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. We are a society today that doesnt consider our future. We live for the here and now, and because of that the future is painful. We dont perceive that theres harvest coming, that what we have sown is what we will reap, that if we sow to the flesh we reap corruption but if we sow to the Spirit then from the Spirit we reap eternal life. Do you want to reap what has eternal value, or what is temporal and will only fade away? Imagine it-consider it: Someday Ill stand before Him. Someday Ill see Him face to face. And on that day, nothing else is going to matter except my relationship to Him. Thats why its so key, so absolutely crucial, that we understand His eternal ways now--including His loving sovereignty over every detail of our lives thats leading up to that day. So often all that seems important right now is that we be relieved from this pain or delivered from this situation where we feel unsuccessful or uncomfortable or unfulfilled or unappreciated or unaccepted. We look at it that way because we cant see the future, we cant see what God has in the space thats added when we change. And because we cant see whats in that space, we so easily focus back on the disappointment, that one incident, that one situation, that one shattered dream. But someday we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
