** WEATHER WARNING** As from Monday-Tuesday the weather is estimated to be extremely cold in Cyprus , not only in the mountain areas but also in the cities . Estimated temperature will drop at least 4 degrees below the normal level - it is VITAL that you plan ahead on how to best protect the dogs under your care, whether these are stray dogs (in shelters or pounds) or your dogs at home. The cold wave wont calm down until the end of the week (next week).. We all need to do the best we can for all dogs under our care, and around us. If dogs are outside please (1) ensure the dog house is water/wind free and is situated in an area free of droughts (2) Put carpets and old blankets in the dog house to ensure that it is as warm as possible, fleece are good. Check they do not freeze up, and replace if they do..even a hot water bottle replaced regularly can help..but not dogs who chew (3) buy dog clothes for your dogs... In any case if dog is below 10 kilos, make sure to keep the dog indoors with you. Safety at all times. Preferably it would be best to have animals in sheltered areas away from the cold winds also..
