WEDNESDAY 10th SEPTEMBER 2014 NEWS • Chiefs from the Lungu kingdom of Mbala and Mpulungu districts have vowed that they will NOT allow anyone to interfere in the affairs of their empire. Speaking through Chief Zombe in a telephone interview from Mbala with Mano News today, the Lungu Kingdom charged that is unfortunate that Chief Chitoshi of the Lungu speaking people of Mporokoso district who they said does not even belong to the Lungu Royal Establishment could question the appointment of Raphael Chipampe Sikazwe as senior chief Tafuna. And Chief Zombe added that the Lungu Kingdom has since threatened to take Chief Chitoshi to the Courts of law if he does not stop interfering with the affairs of the kingdom. ************************************ • Yesterday, Chief Chitoshi of the Lungu speaking people of Mporokoso District questioned the appointment of Raphael Chipampe Sikazwe as senior chief Tafuna. His Royal Highness alleged that Chiefs from the Lungu Kingdom did not follow the right channel in appointing the senior chief Tafuna. Chief Chitoshi said Raphael Chipampe is not the right person to be on the throne of senior chief Tafuna of the Lungu people. ************************************ • A clergyman in Kasama has attributed the rise in uncontrollable behaviour in society to beer drinking. Pastor Lawrence Chishala of Seventh Day Adventist - SDA church, Kasama East mission district said this during the burial of 22 year old Grace Muzumala of Kasama’s Mulenga-Hills township, who was allegedly raped and murdered by her 16 year old nephew on Sunday Pastor Chishala observed that excessive beer-drinking among people has resulted into increased criminal conduct in communities hence the need to seek God’s intervention. He has since advised members of the public to repent from evil ways and avoid ungodly behaviour. Earlier a family representative urged families to live in harmony and find amicable solutions to problems in homes. ************************************ • Meanwhile, there was confusion when a representative from African Life Insurance Company where the late Ms Muzumala worked stood to give a speech. The representative allegedly passed a comment which angered some family members who attempted to lynch the man. Hundreds of mourners paid their last respect to the late Ms Muzumala at Chiba cemetery. Ms Muzumala was raped and stabbed by a 16-year old nephew to her husband to death in the early hours of Sunday, after she rebuked the suspect for returning home late and drunk. The embattled juvenile suspect is detained in police custody. ************************************ • In a related sad development, business in Mbala yesterday came to a standstill when hundreds of mourners flocked to President’s Park to pay the last respect to the road traffic accident victims who died on Sunday on the Mbala – Kasama road. And government has described the loss of eight people in the road traffic accident as a national tragedy. Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Bornface Mbuzi who represented the Provincial Minister, Freedom Sikazwe at the burial service said government is concerned over the increased number of road traffic accidents. Eight people of the same family who were travelling from Lusaka to Mbala died when a Toyota Noah registration number ALM 2008 over turned following a rear tyre burst killing six people on the spot and two others died in the Kasama general hospital. Six bodies were buried in Mbala at Mutambalike cemetery while the other two other bodies have been taken to Lusaka for burial. Government through the Provincial Administration procured the coffins for the eight road traffic accident victims. ************************************ • The Police Command in Northern Province says it is scaling up patrols in a bid to curb crime in the region. Regional Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said patrols will be intensified as a way of reducing criminal activities Commissioner Katanga also warned members of the public against taking the law in the hands. ************************************ • The Young Women’s Christian Association –YWCA has described as sad reports of a Mbala woman who allegedly murdered her husband over Kapenta. YWCA Northern Province coordinator Justina Mubanga said it is unfortunate that women who are supposed to be peace makers in a home were now resorting to violent behaviour. Ms Mubanga said her organization does not favor wrong-doing by either men or women saying the embattled woman should face the wrath of the law. ********************************* • The Zambian Government has been commended for its leadership and commitment to ending child, early and forced marriage. Permanent Representatives of Canada and the Netherlands to the United Nations-UN made the remarks during a General Assembly panel discussion on “Child, Early and Forced Marriage worldwide including the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda” on Friday last week chaired by Zambia’s Deputy Permanent Representative Christine Kalamwina. The Canadian Representative, Guillermo Rishchynski, said his country and Zambia will reintroduce a resolution at this year’s General Assembly to build on and accelerate international momentum to end child, early and forced marriage. And chairing the panel discussion, Zambia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Christine Kalamwina, observed that most member states acknowledged the negative impact of child, early and forced marriage on the ability of girls and women to contribute to the development of their societies. ************************************ ….and in Sports • Zambian tonight takes on Cape Verde in the 2015 AFCON Group F qualifier with a disappointing home draw against Mozambique in Ndola four days ago. But, Northern Province Sports Coordinator John Nkunika said though the Chipolopolo boys kicked off their Morocco 2015 AFCON qualifiers with a draw not all hope is lost. Nkunika noted that each match has a different game plan. And Kasama Soccer analyst Bernard Zimba told mano spots that Chipolopolo boys must play an all attacking game as it is a must win match if the hopes of reaching next year’s Africa cup of nations are to be kept alive. Meanwhile, across section of Kasama Soccer fans talked to in a random interview, expressed hope that the Chipolopolo boys will carry the day.
