WEEK AHEAD – A FORECASTING NIGHTMARE / SOME SUMMER August 18, - TopicsExpress

WEEK AHEAD – A FORECASTING NIGHTMARE / SOME SUMMER August 18, 2013 Most of the country seeing the start of much improved condition on Sunday evening . The week ahead brings a return to summer weather but a heatwave of long days of unbroken sunshine is unlikely. Towards next weekend things get very complicated as areas of high pressure to the east and west may lock a low pressure system over Ireland and the UK but on the other hand, this low pressure system may be forced to fill in fairly quickly to leave the weather on the better side. Keep an eye on Bitesized for updates on next weekend during the next few days. Sunday night sees a few scattered showers in the west. Temps will be around 8 to 10 degrees but up to 12 or 13 along Atlantic coastal counties. Westerly winds will be light in the east but much fresher in the west. Monday sees sunny spells periods, best of these in the southern half of the Country as it will become cloudier in northern areas as the day goes on. Some showers around but these are expected to be fairly light and well scattered although the odd heavier one may occur. Temps, 17 to 20 degrees, coolest on northern coasts, warmest in inland south. Westerly winds remain light in the east but much fresher in the west. Monday night is dry with light to moderate S/SW winds. Temps 9 to 12 degrees but again, it will be a few degrees warmer in western coastal counties. Tuesday is a dry day apart from a few scattered showers in the north. There will be good sunny spells and periods in the south but it looks as it my be quiet a lot cloudier further north. Temps, 18 to 20 in light to moderate S/SW winds which will be fresher in northwestern areas. Tuesday night is dry at first but later sees a weak band of rain push in from the NW. Rainfall amounts will be little and any rain will likely fizzle out as it pushes further south but drizzle may occur in many areas. Moderate to fresh S/SW winds backing westerly later and slackening. It will be a murky night with temps in the mid teens. Wednesday sees any remaining light rain or drizzle clear quite quickly. Plenty of cloud around today but some good sunny periods breaking through as well. Temps from around 19 on northern coast to a very warm 21. Winds, light to moderate W/SW. Rest of the week up to later Friday, sees warm summery conditions with temps reaching the mid twenties in many areas and little in the way of rain but from Friday afternoon things become very complicated and there are many possibilities with the weather for next weekend. I will update tomorrow and hopefully will have better ideas on the longer range by then but for now I’d say, don’t expect any longer range forecasts to be made with any decent level of certainty during the next few days.
