****************************** WEEKEND RACES - TopicsExpress

****************************** WEEKEND RACES ************************* This was another weekend of running, but since I changed my diet and fueled properly before the races, there was no energy letdown. This has me really excited about the Richmond Marathon next weekend. On Saturday,my friend Letty and I ran a 10 mile trail run to benefit the NAVY SEAL FOUNDATION. It was held on a state park in Va Beach. The race started at 0900. It started on the beach, with soft sand for a few hundred feet, then onto the trails. For the first 5 miles it wsnt bad,but the seals saved the toughest part for the second half. Hills, trees laying across the path at head height, soft sand and killer tree roots. Since I was running a half marathon the next day,I took my time so I didnt break an ankle. The finish was back on the beach, and after it was over,my legs were sore as all get out, guess I am not a trail runner. Sunday started out in the low 50s,and the race was run in Newport News Va and started on a college campus. My legs felt like lead, but I was going to finish because the medal is HUGH and I had to have it. The course was mostly flat, and there was little wind,so I ran with my flag. Part of the course goes thru parks, and while running,a police officer on his bike rode up along side me and held his hand out to shake mine,he told me THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE AND FOR ALL YOU WILL DO. This really got to me,specially coming from a police officer. These guys place their lives on the line daily,I felt re energized. I finished in 2:53,and to my amazement, was 3rd in my age group,WOW, 2 weekends and 2 awards. This was another fun weekend,I got to hang out with my good friends Letty and Nick, and now I am resting up before my drive home. I really feel more confident now about Richmond.
