WEG Update Friday, Sept. 5th: Medals over medals at the Zenith, the large concert hall in Caen. 4 Vaulting World Champions were selected: in the men’s category, the women’s, the team competitions and, for the first time, the Pas de Deux. And the German vaulters have pepped up the German WEG medal count tremendously, despite some mistakes in the individual and team competitions throughout the whole tournament. Old and new World Champions in the Pas de Deux are Austrians Jasmin Lindner and Lukas Wacha with their “Siegfried and Roy” freestyle. Silver went to “Tarzan and Jane” – Pia Engelberty and Torben Jacobs from Germany on Danny Boy lunged by Patrick Looser, bronze for the British sisters Joanne and Hanna Eccles. The second German Pas de Deux, Gera Marie Grün and Justin van Gerven came 4th (“Queen” performance). Erik Oese on Calvador, presented by Andreas Bäßler, won individual bronze and Team Neuss with Delia, lunged by Jessica Schmitz secured once again GOLD with their motto “a new dimension”, with a space-like outfit and according music. Team silver went to Switzerland, bronze to the French team. Kristina Boe and Conrinna Knauf, competing in the individual women’s, came 6th and 10th. According to National Coach Ulla Ramge, both ladies are still missing some years’ in age and experience to the leading vaulters in their division. Individual male vaulters Thomas and Viktor Brüsewitz came 4th, 5th respectively. Competition was tight in all divisions, all performance results were closely together before the final performances.
