WETHERBY HISTORICAL TRUST WOULD LIKE YOUR VIEWS ON THE FOLLOWING: When the Old Mens Parliament heard that Leeds City Council were going to refurbish the car park off Hallfield Lane we told them of the precedent for using and preserving a local name at the Wilderness Car Park. We suggested that the new car park should be called The Cluster of Nuts Car Park We have just been informed by Ward Councillor Alan Lamb this is going to happen. Alan Lamb has really supported this suggestion. We have started our next project with Coun. Alan Lamb and Leeds City Council (LCC). We believe that as well as refurbishing the The Cluster of Nuts Car Park LCC are also refurbishing the car park on the old railway station site off Linton Road. All the station buildings were demolished years ago but I think that the old platforms are still there and the trackbeds were filled in to make the present gravelly car park surface. If you look below where the old footpath descends from the Spofforth Hill Road Bridge to the car park/platform level you can see a line of flagstones which were the edge if a platform. Please see photos below. The flagstones are the edge of the siding to he right of the steam engine in the old photo. You can see them in the photo of the car park by the puddle. We think it would be wonderful to preserve a bit of Wetherby history and keep a small section of a platform visible in the new Station Car Park. Do We Are Wetherby members agree?
