WHAT DO YOU WANT OUT OF RAMADAN THIS YEAR 2013? DO WE HAVE A PLAN?? Last weeks Quran class was how to prepare ourselves for Ramadan mentally, so we can get excited about it, instead of dreading it..... After hearing her lecture, it motivated me and wanted to share my reflections on this upcoming Ramadan 2013 using some her lecture, and some useful resources found from articles....... We all know that Ramadan is approaching and we know what we should be doing to prepare, but we are at a loss when it comes to following words with action. A successful Ramadan is all about planning; you must have a clear vision of what you want to gain and specifically how you are going to achieve it. Whether you are a working professional or a mother with children, or both you , we still have to plan, to get the most of Ramadan. If we use simple strategic planning of our schedule before Ramadan it will free up our time drastically for ibaadah (worship). So how do we approach this blessed month of Ramadan, which are days away ????? Although it is days away, we are not guaranteed to be in Ramadan this year. So many of us already lost some of our dear brothers and sisters who were with us last year are not here this Ramadan. One has to be very grateful to Allah for giving us another chance to repent and purify ourselves if we make it during this Ramadan, because it is a great gift from Allah. . So why do you think Allah gave us this chance? The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon him) used to teach his companions to say, “O Allah we ask you that we do every act of obedience to you and that we refrain from anything unacceptable (Munkar) to you. Grant me the love of those who are poor and disabled and forgive me and shower me with your mercy. If you want to take me, make my very best days and deeds to be the last ones.” When the month of Ramadan enters all the gates of hell are closed and gates of heaven are widely opened; and all the Shayateen are locked; according to what Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim reported from the Prophet (Peace and Blessing be Upon Him). So no excuses, lets prepare ourselves mentally, and physically to have a sincere intention and determination to grab any moment of the month of Ramadan and make the most of it.. There are three moments in every single day in Ramadan that we should not miss.1) At Maghrib (Iftar time) or just before we break our fast. This is the time when the power of Duaa is acceptable and never returned. 2) Just before Fajr prayer is the time for forgiveness which is described by Allah as, “And those who pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.” Chapter 3, Verse 17 3) At the Ishraq time, (about 20 minutes after the sunrise) especially this is the time for Dhikr and remembrance of Allah. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Ramadan? Is it hunger, Taraweeh, eid cloth or iftaar parties? Maybe The Sahaaba used to prepare for Ramadan six months in advance. So if we really want to make the best of this Ramadan then we need to prepare for it now! This may be our last Ramadan for life is so uncertain. Then there is NO doubt that we must make the best of it for the Reward of EVERY good act in the month of Ramadan is multiplied many times over: If there was a 75% sale on at Tiffany and Co. surely people would go crazy and even cue all night outside in order to be the first in the store to take advantage of this special offer. So in the same way, why should we not take advantage of the immense rewards that are available in Ramadan? The best way we can make the best of this Ramadan and grab the immense rewards that are available is to prepare for it NOW. We do beg Allah to give us the privilege of being in Ramadan and we ask Allah to have mercy on those who do not have the chance of another blessed month. May Allah enable us to make the best of this Ramadan and make it a salvation for us in the Hereafter. Ameen
