WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SLPP? OPEN LETTER TO ALL SLPP - TopicsExpress

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SLPP? OPEN LETTER TO ALL SLPP MEMBERS/SUPPORTERS!!!!!! My Fellow SLPP Members/Supporters, few days ago the government with a few cross party members paraded the streets of Bo and Kenema singing victory songs that Ebola has been defeated. Smh!!!! Here is a question for you!!!! Ebola and Monologue, what do they have in common? The unmitigated disaster our government has become? Yes, but not just that. They highlight just how incompetent and useless the SLPP has been as the official opposition charged with holding the government to account. A few folks within the SLPP blame all its woes squarely on the shoulders of Rtd Brig Julius Maada Bio. They suggest that he is responsible for all (or the largest share of) the discord and bitterness tearing the party apart. This is a lazy and deceitful excuse. My fellow party members, the TRUTH IS NOT OUR ENEMY. For once in our lives, let us be totally honest and search deep within what is left of our souls. Julius Maada Bio is a symptom (and victim) of the systemic failure of honest (virtuous) leadership within the SLPP for many, many years. The support he receives from the many disenfranchised youths and citizens is an expression of the frustration many people have with our broken and morally bankrupt society. Who will save us? Who is looking out for us? Who will put our needs first? Here are some facts we all need to know of. Julius Maada Bio is not a member of the SLPP National Executive. FACT! Julius Maada Bio is not the Party Chairman or Deputy Party Chairman. FACT!!! Julius Maada Bio is not the Secretary General. FACT!!!! Indeed, he holds no official position or heads any committee within the SLPP organisation. FACT!!!!!! So who do we blame for the failure of the SLPP to present a clear and coherent message to the people of Sierra Leone? So who do we blame for not knowing what the SLPP position is on any given national issue? The SLPP is supposedly the Opposition to the government in Parliament. Really? So if it is, why has it failed to hold the government to account in Parliament? Why has it failed to improve, amend and effectively scrutinise government legislation? Why does the SLPP keep giving the failed, corrupt and misguided government a FREE PASS? Why does the SLPP never seem capable of offering better solutions and policy alternatives to the wretched government initiatives that are destroying our beautiful country? What is the point (and purpose) of the SLPP? It is time for the elected leaders of the SLPP to stop hiding behind the excuse of party infighting and discord. Party members/supporters are allowed to disagree and argue and debate ferociously. We do live in a democratic state where FREE speech is supposedly cherished and members can support whomsoever they want as leader. What isnt allowed however, is the total abdication of duty by our so called elected leadership which has left our party naked and the subject of ridicule. What is stopping them enforcing our Party Constitution, code of conduct and ethics? Why are they failing to give moral leadership? Why is it easier for some of our elected Party leaders to slavishly follow the President who has so badly let down our people and yet totally ignore a Party Heavyweight like Julius Maada Bio who has dedicated his life to serving our people? Are they seriously trying to tell us that the President who heads the most corrupt government in the history of Sierra Leone cares more about our people than Julius Maada Bio? Try telling that to the folks dying or watching loved ones die at the hands of the Ebola menace. Try telling that to the people dying everyday from preventable diseases at a time when the President makes BIG claims on healthcare. Try telling that to the many youths without a job, with no hope, no prospects in President Koromas apparently wonderful kingdom. Julius Maada Bio is not the problem, neither is the so called infighting, bitterness and discord. The problem is a LACK OF MORAL LEADERSHIP at the very top of the party. If you are not ready to put the people of Sierra Leone first, to provide them with credible alternative solutions to the governments failed agenda and scrutinise and hold this corrupt government to account, THEN YOU SHOULD LEAVE. IN THE NAME OF GOD, GO! ......And close the door behind you. The SLPP demands and requires elected leaders mature enough to handle criticism, dedicated enough to always put the needs of our people first and with the moral fibre to always respect natural justice and fair play as laid out in our constitution. Enough with the excuses and procrastination......It is time for REAL leadership and a hunger and desire to save our beautiful country from disaster at the hands of the APC. What is there that Julius Maada Bio has failed to do? Has he failed to speak to all significant stakeholders? Does he need to go on his knees and beg for forgiveness? Kneel to whom and why? Has he not consistently asked for restraint and the respecting of all fellow members and party rules? As the beautiful Josephine Koroma once said, What this group must understand is that Bio’s appeal to our people stems from a deep appreciation of his loyalty to our country and party. In him, they see the embodiment of their own values – a man who was prepared to lay down his life in defence of his country; by deciding to honour his pledge to relinquish power and restore constitutional order, a decision that ironically paved the way for the SLPP itself to return to power for the first time after nearly 30 years in political wilderness. The majority of our people may not be rich, they may probably not afford Le500, 000 for an office space, but they do recognise and reward those who genuinely identify with them (Josepine Koroma 2014). This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybodys job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldnt do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done God bless Sierra Leone! Morta Man, Nor To God Bra!!!!!!! Blamas Finest, The Man Who Conjures Something Out Of Nothing!!!!!!!!
