WHAT WE WISH WE HAD KNOWN GOING INTO VCE TERM 2: 1. TRIAL STUDY - TopicsExpress

WHAT WE WISH WE HAD KNOWN GOING INTO VCE TERM 2: 1. TRIAL STUDY HABITS: Term 1 is all about settling in and becoming familiar with the rigours and expectations of year 12. Term 2 is all about PRACTICE and TRIAL AND ERROR. Use this term to fine tune your study techniques and to get in good habits. Talk to your friends and passed students, get lots of ideas about how others have studied effectively and then play around with them. This may mean studying in your family room for a week, or studying with music for a week, or going to the library. Try certain techniques over a short amount of time and see what works for you....This will save you a heap of time and effort later in the year. 2. REGULARLY QUIZ YOURSELF: Given the VCAA’s decision to remove mid year exams from the course a lot of pressure and thus incentive to study and learn has been removed from VCE students. However, and I feel dumb even saying something so plainly obvious, the content you are now learning is examinable. What I eventually learnt was that if you master certain content that you are now learning, you WILL remember it when it comes to doing practice exams later in the year. Invest a little bit of time now in doing practice SACS or quizzes for each topic to give yourself a base understanding which you can launch from later in the year. 3. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH TEACHERS: Your teachers are an invaluable resource that for the most part are willing to help anyone who is confident enough to ask. Just as term 2 is less stressful than later in the year for students, it is also more relaxed for teachers which means that they have plenty of time to consult with students. If you build relationships with teachers now by asking questions out of class time or doing something as simple as asking ‘how can I improve?’ it will show that you care. If someone believes that you are emotionally invested in your own work, they are much more likely to want you to succeed and to help you in the pursuit of success.
