WHERE ARE THE JONATANIANS THAT DEFENDED THE OBSERVATIONS THAT GEJ DOES NOT LIKE SW, THAT YORUBAS ARE NOT AMONG THE TOP 20 FGN POLITICAL APPOINTEES? Alaafin accuses FG of marginalising Yoruba By Oladele Ogunsola Correspondent, Ibadan Federal Government has been accused of deliberate exclusion of Yoruba in the allocation of resources and in political power sharing despite the heroic contributions made to the Nigerian nation by the race. Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, made the accusation at the weekend at the closing ceremony of the weeklong 3rd Annual Oranyan Festival at the Aganju Court of the Oba’s palace in the ancient town. Addressing the crowd that graced the event, the monarch lamented that “the Yoruba ethnic group is almost relegated to the background in the scheme of things in Nigeria”. Prominent citizens who attended the event included Oyo State Deputy Governor, Moses Adeyemo; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu; ex-Governor Omololu Olunloyo; Sayo Alagbe, who represented another former Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala; a former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, Seyi Makinde, Femi Babalola and notable traditional rulers from within and outside Nigeria, among others. The Alaafin noted: “It would almost seem that the central government has decided to look away from Yorubaland in the allocation of resources and in political power sharing. “This unfortunate situation of the Yoruba within the context of the Nigerian state is no doubt disturbing, bearing in mind the enormous resources available in Yoruba world view to build the Nigerian nation,’’ the monarch added. Referring to Oranyan being celebrated, Oba Adeyemi, said the Yoruba nation was in dire need of empire builders in the mould and character of the legendary Oranyan. “Oranyan festival is to celebrate Oranyan who established an enduring political structure for civil and military administration in Africa. “This gathering is a rallying point for enthusiasts of Yoruba history and culture. It is also to call attention to Yoruba contribution to civilisation as empire builders long before the dawn of political sophistication in other parts of the world. “It is also to establish the relevance of Yoruba culture in promoting global peace, international understanding and harmony,’’ he said. The monarch adding: “The life and political career of Oranyan would provide a template for effective political system or statecraft, empire building and mass political participation.” dailyindependentnig/2014/09/alaafin-accuses-fg-marginalising-yoruba/
