WHERE ARE THE SHAMELESS SUPPORTERS OF JONATHAN??? PETROLEUM TANKER DRIVERS TO GO ON STRIKE OVER BAD ROADS IN SOUTH-SOUTH AND SOUTH-EAST Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has warned of an impending strike action in parts of the South-South and South-East of the country should government fail to heed to union’s call for urgent repairs of the Port Harcourt/Eleme junction Road, Okigwe/Umuahia, and Jebba/Oloru/Ilorin roads in Rivers, Abia and Kwara states respectively. The national chairman of the PTD, Comrade Salimon Oladiti, gave the warning after a brief meeting with other executive members in Abuja, saying the said roads had claimed the lives of some members of the PTD and portends great dangers to more members’ lives and properties as it has daily become more un-motorable. The national chairman, said the deplorable state of the Port Harcourt/ Eleme Junction road, a distance of just about 10 kilometres, takes seven to eight hours of manoeuvres and meandering by trucks, many of which break down in the process, upturning their contents, killing PTD members and endangering the lives of several other Nigerians using the road. Oladiti equally bemoaned the dilapidated state of the Okigwe/Umuahia road as well as Jebba/Oloru road, describing their present states as appalling while stating that further delay in their repairs portends greater danger. He expressed the concerned of members of the union and worried that nothing has been done on all these roads in spite of repeated calls for government’s intervention. He noted that all measures employed to call on government to ameliorate the situation was to no avail and stated that these roads are the worst spots that gives tanker drivers the most concern as lives and property are lost there every day. Oladiti, therefore, informed of the resolve of the executive committee meeting of the union in Abuja to take action by ensuring that lifting or distribution of fuel products on these axis would be discontinued in the next two weeks if nothing is done to repair the roads, thereby saving the PTD members from the continued carnage experienced on a daily basis. The national chairman, commended the federal government on the Transformation Agenda and the successes recorded in other sectors, roads inclusive, especially the Lago/Benin/Ore road. He enjoined government to save Nigerians using these bad roads from the harrowing experiences encountered on them, adding that where the situation is left unabated, the nation and economy is the worst for it on the long run. Leadership.
