WHITE RHINO, CERATOTHERIUM SIMUM, POPULATION IN MOSI-OA- TUNYA - TopicsExpress

WHITE RHINO, CERATOTHERIUM SIMUM, POPULATION IN MOSI-OA- TUNYA INCREASES It is with utmost happiness to announce to all that, Inonge, one of the female rhinos gave birth to a calf suspected to be male on Wednesday 21st January 2015. The Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone is one of the privileged national parks in Zambia to have White Rhinos that have managed to feasibly reproduce, thereby increasing the number of Rhinos from the initial five (5) introduced in 2008 to eleven (11) as two died due to natural causes. At present the population stands at nine (9). This achievement has come about due to constant monitoring and protection by ZAWA with the support of other stakeholders whose efforts have been tremendous from the initial stage. Inonge has had three pregnancies of which two calves are alive as the first calf was a premature which only survived for a day and this was in 2009. The second birth was in 2012 and it was a female which has now grown. The latest birth was recorded on 21st January, 2015 and since its a birth after the jubilee celebrations, it deserves to be named as such. Welcome Jubilee!! We thank African Wildlife Foundation, Zambia (AWF) for their continued support rendered to the park. See photos below.
