WHO BE THIS ASUU SEF? Gen Abacha, the last military despot in - TopicsExpress

WHO BE THIS ASUU SEF? Gen Abacha, the last military despot in Nigeria had a killer squad. This team of highly trained men was put together to effect the elimination of Abacha’s known, perceived and imagined enemies. ASUU as usual was at a point in time daring Abacha with a strike action to which the dark-goggled General’s attention was never drawn. Abacha’s hit men would always try to remove any threat before informing him. For this reason, the general was neither aware of ASUU nor the threat. After eliminating Pa Rewane, Kudirat Abiola etc ; incarcerating others like OBJ et al and Diya et al; and forcing Soyinka et al on exile, the head of this strike force went to see Oga. The following conversation was said to have taken place during the meeting. General Abacha: Major, how far? Head of Strike Force: fine sir. All opposition and threats have been neutralized. It’s only ASUU that is giving us headache. General Abacha (fuming with stammered anger): Asuu?? Who is Asuu? Dan banza! Go and kill him!!!! Today, Nigerian leaders know better. But this is not the main thrust of my discourse. The main issue is how to acquire and maintain the quality that ASUU- an indispensible stakeholder in (particularly) the education sector, which is quite cognizant of its rights, obligations, strength, opportunity and strategic importance- have so sacrificially fought for. We (Nigerians) elect politicians and grant them the permission to use our God given resources to put things right for us and improve the quality of our lives. We therefore should be able to control them. I wonder if many Nigerians take cognizance of the fact that our leaders are our employees anyway….. I wonder further if a substantial percentage of those who know this believe it. But I am sure that ASUU, TUC, NLC and other meaningful trade organizations know it for sure. I also know that the Late Gani Fawehinmi knew it and so do the Festus Keyamos, and the Femi Falanas. These men have always told our leaders that they are actually our employees. Unfortunately however, a few trees cannot make the type of forest we would love to see in this case. Let talk quality. My Friend Mr. Adah is the principal of a highly rated secondary school in the Middlebelt where parents pay up to N500,000 per annum. The proprietor of the school believes in quality- quality money should yield quality training and welfare. In order to ensure that the quality of food is at its best, the proprietor ordered that the principal’s family should eat whatever is prepared for the students. Now the principal is ultimately the commander in chief of every team/section- including the cooking crew. Tell me, would he permit a low quality meal to be prepared for these AJEBOTAS whose parents pay so much money to make sure they are well trained and catered for? No! NOW LETS CONNECT THE ISSUES. Question 1: have you seen any politician’s child/ward in public schools in recent years? Question 1b: how many? Question 2: is there no way we can compel our employees to send their children/wards to public schools so as to ensure some level of seriousness in the lives of our leader as per the quality of the education sector (in fact in all sectors)? Question 2b: if your answer to 2a is yes, what methodology do you suggest? If all politicians from the simple ward chairman to the President had children in our public schools, it will be impossible to have our students study and live in awful environments as we have in the name of facilities. Unfortunately you can hardly find one. It really hurts to see an employee use the resources of his employer to better the lots of his own children while feeding garbage to his employer’s children. God bless Nigerians! God bless (the more) those who believe that we humans have been given some powers to effect changes and should therefore not disturb God on every infinitesimal issues. We can call our leaders to order by punishing them at the pools! We can set some rules for them!
