WHO DO YA TRUST? What Im about to write may piss some people off, but this is my opinion and mine alone. Every day, I see new writers popping up with questions of: 1. Where do I go with this work of mine? 2. Whos good to publish with? 3. Should I self-publish? Here, Ill toss out some advice which I learned the hard way. If a publisher says to you well publish you and if they start tossing out dollar signs....RUN. If they say give up your rights to your work...RUN. If they say or if you read--and face it, you have to read the fine print--that you have to pay for the ISBN, cover art, additional editing, etc...RUN YOUR ASS OFF AND DONT LOOK BACK. I see publishing companies all the time using this tactic of saying theyre going to be there for you. No, theyre going to take your money. Period. If they tell you that you have to do all the advertising and legwork and then PAY for it all...you might as well self-publish onj Amazon Kindle and take your chances. So find out everything that you can about this prospective publisher that professes to care so much. Theyll care about your money and not much else. Herere two excellent sites to check out whos good and who aint. 1. hipiers/publishing.html 2. pred-ed/peba.ht Some of the info may be a bit out of date, although Mr. Anthony and the owners of P&E do try to keep up to date as much as they can. Theyve never steered me wrong. Do yourself a favor and check them out before signing with someone youre not 100% sure of.
