WHO IS A CHRISTIAN AND WHEN IS SILENCE A SIN? In recent times, some people have queried why a born again Christian like me should be concerned about politics and political affairs in Nigeria. But I have refused to respond to those questions all along because am led by the Holy Spirit and am accountable to God NOT man…. But at this juncture, I think I need to straighten up some things, so as to lay this issue to rest ones and for all.…. First, I must state that I am not a member of any political party and I don’t talk politics. I talk GOVERNANCE and LEADERSHIP. God in Heaven is my witness; I have NEVER collected any money from any human being to say anything against the president… I speak the truth cos that is what my Bible commands me to do… I am not one of those who supports mediocrity because all in the name of tribal affiliation. Like I always say, the day I die, there is one question I am very sure God will not ask me, WHICH TRIBE ARE YOU FROM? God won’t ask me that question; rather He will judge me based on the truth I stood for…. I am a Nigerian and I know that there are times in the life of every Nation when SILENCE CAN NOT BE CONSIDERED TO BE GOLDEN. for Nigeria, that time is NOW!!!. Therefore, I owe it to my generation to stand up and speak against injustice and misgovernance in my country…. I have invested my personal resources in this cause in terms of money, time, energy, intellect etc, but I don’t regret it cos it’s the little I can do for my father land…. Ephesians 5:11 says “don’t be a part of evil works, rather convict and expose them” I like the way the Message translation puts it “Expose those things for the SHAM they are, rip the cover off the FRAUD and see how attractive you will look in the eyes of CHRIST JESUS” Secondly, I don’t not speak for myself alone… by the grace of God almighty I am not a hungry man and I can NEVER be hungry as long as God lives; but I know that there is no winner in a losing team…. See what Proverbs 31:8 & 9 says “Speak up for those who have no voice, speak for the rights of those who are poor and desolate…. Stand up for their justice” Every right thinking Christian in Nigeria will agree with me that the percentage of the poor people in Nigeria is criminally high and it’s majorly down to bad leadership and we can’t be good Christians by pretending about this. ON PRESIDENT JONATHAN’s STYLE OF LEADERSHIP: A few scriptures might help here; Proverbs 16:14 – “A Leader who lack self control wreaks havoc in lives; youre smart to stay clear of someone like that”. Proverbs 25:5 (MSG) says “Remove the wicked from leadership and authority will be credible and God will be honored” Proverbs 29:14 “Leadership gains authority and respect when the voiceless poor are treated fairly” Psalm 72:1…4 “Give the gift of wise rule to the king, O God, the gift of just rule to the crown prince. May he judge your people rightly, be honorable to the meek and lowly in the society. Let the mountains give exuberant witness; shape the hills with the contours of right living. Please stand up for the poor, help the children of the needy, come down hard on the cruel tyrants or corrupt leaders” The above listed scriptures are not my words, they are the word of God and as a Christian I live by the word of God. That is why I dissociate myself from President Goodluck Jonathan cos he hasn’t shown himself to be a good leader. I am not saying you should do what am doing, but please don’t query my position cos it’s based on conviction not on sentiments. You are free to support wicked rulers but in the end we will all stand before God in judgment. Prayer is a very good spiritual tool and I pray for Nigeria daily, but I also know that prayer alone doesn’t solve all problems…. Even the bible says FAITH WITHOUT WORK IS DEAD…. James 2:17. It takes a combination of humanity and divinity for any problem to be solved. I have seen so many of my church members mount the pulpit to share testimonies when they are granted VISAs to travel to USA, EUROPE, UAE etc and I wonder if the people of those countries will share testimonies when they are granted VISAs to come to Nigeria… your guess is as good as mine… also another question that comes to mind is; were those countries built with prayers alone??? The answer is capital NO!!! That brings me to 2Chronicles 7:14 “if my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray… seek my face…and TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land” I am not a kind of Christian who prays “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is done in Heaven”, yet I feel comfortable living in a country that looks like hell… God said in Deut. 30:19 “Life and death I set before you, choose life that you may live” I have made a choice to live and will not keep quiet while some so called leaders are preventing me from living... cos most of the deaths we record in Nigeria are actually made made and can be prevented if we have good leaders who care about the welfare of the PEOPLE. Mathew 18:18 (MSG) says “ A YES on earth is a YES in Heaven, and A NO on earth is NO in heaven… so you see that God will NEVER come down and do for us what HE has given us the power to do for ourselves… we have to do our parts and God will then do His part. SELAH!!!
