WHO IS SLEEPING? NIGERIA OR HER POLICYMAKERS? It is doubtful if Nigeria has ever present & stand firm on an ideal that represents her interest as a nation. Our policymakers often dither & are inconsistent when it comes 2 itemizing our national goals. This shortcomings are even more conspicuous in d arena of our foreign policy. And d foreign policy of a nation is suppose 2 reflect d nature of that nation. If our policymakers are not sleeping they ought 2 have realised that our policies, both domestic & foreign, should be channeled to attaining d type of economic growth that will exceed population growth. And 2 attain that kind of growth requires additional investments in our economy. Those additional investments can be gotten by dealing with our national problems of trade deficiencies & deficits, monetary reform, & poor productivity, with resultant benefits of improving d welfare of Nigeria & standard of living of Nigerians. Our nation must be determined, at whatever cost or sacrifice, to preserve at home d conditions of life in which our objectives can survive & prospere. However, it is imperative to note that whilst d economic & productive capacity of Nigeria are markly below those of d advanced countries, her potential for growth is great. We must strive more determinedly to realise our full potential for growth. Doing so will unarguably enhance d image of our nation abroad & advance d welfare of our citizens at home, thereby creating avenues through which our national purpose will find expression along d road to national maturity. Let me use this opportunity to tell one and all that my calling in life is to push our dear country through new goals of national welfare and international respect. To remodel our society in such a way that d societal structures will help promote our national dream of success. To provide for our societal common good that we shall be at peace with ourselves as a nation, and endeavor to promote & support global peace so that d pursuit of our progressive improvement shall be continuous.
