WILL JONATHAN ARREST SHERIFF AND IHEJIRIKA? More than 48 hours - TopicsExpress

WILL JONATHAN ARREST SHERIFF AND IHEJIRIKA? More than 48 hours after the shocking revelation that the former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Azubuike O. Ihejiirika, are the major sponsors of Boko Haram, one question that lingers in many Nigerians’ minds is, have these criminals been arrested yet? In his interview with Arise TV (UK), the Australian negotiator who was negotiating for the release of Chibok girls, Dr. Stephen Davis, made it very clear that to break the fighting spirit of Boko Haram these two major sponsors of the criminal movement have to be arrested. According to Dr. Davis, Sheriff and Ihejirika not only provide funding for Boko Haram, but also give instructions on who should be killed. Nigerians, particularly in the North, have been bruised and battered by this crisis. And it is easy to jump to the conclusion with a sigh of relief that with these duo in security custody, the fight against Boko Haram should soon be over. But, I think there is more to it than meet the eye and getting them arrested will probably be the biggest victory yet in the fight against Boko Haram for many reasons. For these murderous masterminds to be arrested, a couple of questions have to be answered with a resounding “yes”. Is the PDP-led Nigerian government interested in containing Boko Haram knowing very well that the states that are most affected by the crisis are the most unlikely places where PDP could hope to win elections come 2015? Will Jonathan and the top military officers be interested in defeating Boko Haram since the crisis has become a major reason for looting our resources in the name of security (which is, by the way, only provided to the looters)? How far up is the chain of command after Sheriff and Ihejirika? For how long has Jonathan known about this and kept quiet? To be frank, as these and many more fundamental questions remain unanswered, I just can’t see any reason why the present government should arrest Sheriff and Iherijika. But, I truly and sincerely hope that Jonathan will prove me wrong this time. Anyway, let’s continue to pray and hope. Nigeria desperately needs a miracle! Twit: @DrMaheyM
