WILSON STREET STREETSCAPE (Batavia Ave. to Island/Shumway Ave.)Weekly Construction Update! Below is a look ahead to the anticipated construction activities for the next week. NIGHT WORK is scheduled to continue as follows Monday 8/19, Tuesday 8/20, Wednesday 8/21, Thursday 8/22, Friday 8/23 tentative. The work includes: STORM SEWER - installation will continue this week between Batavia Avenue and Water Street and is tentatively scheduled for Monday and Tuesday night. When the contractor is working at the intersection of Wilson Street & Water Street it is anticipated that there may be closures on Water Street during this work. Road closures will not take place until after 10pm each night and road closure signs will be in place during these closures. Vehicle access on Wilson Street will remain open during these closures. TRAFFIC SIGNALS – includes the installation of the underground facilities needed for the traffic signals at Wilson Street and Island/ Shumway Avenue will be worked on at night this week, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday night. This work will require lane closures on Wilson Street, but two way traffic will be maintained at all times. When work is being performed on either Island Avenue or Shumway Avenue the contractor will close the leg of the intersection being worked on. These closures will not take place until after 10pm each night and road closure signs will be in place during these closures. Vehicle access on Wilson Street will remain open during these closures. Parking will be open on the south side of the street when possible as well as along Batavia Avenue and Water Street. WBK will be stopping at each of the businesses to notify them in advance of this work. DAYTIME WORK for Saturday 8/17, Monday 8/19, Tuesday 8/20, Wednesday 8/21, Thursday 8/22, Friday 8/23, Saturday 8/24. The work includes: WILSON STREET AND BATAVIA AVENUE INTERSECTION – The contractor will continue to work on the decorative walls, underground conduits and foundations for the traffic signal equipment. The sidewalk on the west side of Batavia Avenue from the Pace Bus shelter to the end of the existing wall to the north (approximately the entrance to the Newton House) will be closed for two weeks. SOUTH SIDE OF WILSON STREET BETWEEN WATER STREET AND ISLAND/SHUMWAY AVENUE – The contractor will continue the sidewalk replacement. NORTH SIDE OF WILSON STREET BETWEEN BATAVIA AVENUE AND WATER STREET - It is anticipated that the curb will be replaced, which will be followed by the replacement of the sidewalk in the coming weeks. There will be times that the parking on the north and possibly the side of the street will not be accessible, to allow room for the contractor to complete their work and to allow pedestrian access. This work will require changes in how pedestrians access each business location. The contractor will install ramps to each of the business entrances as needed. The City and WBK will be out working with each of the businesses in this area to ensure access and to coordinate with each of the businesses. NORTH SIDE OF WILSON STREET FROM WATER STREET TO ISLAND/SHUMWAY AVENUE – pending final testing approval of the underground utilities the contractor may begin the removal of the curb and sidewalk in this area. PARKING – There will be times that the parking on Wilson Street between Batavia Avenue and Water Street will be limited this week to allow for the pedestrian access and room for the contractor to work in this area. Parking is available on Batavia Avenue (south of Wilson Street), Water Street (north and south of Wilson Street), Wilson Street (west of Batavia Avenue) and in the City owned lot north of the Newton House (northwest corner of Wilson Street and Batavia Avenue). The next Coffee with the Contractor Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 22nd at 8:30am and will be held at Panera located at 154 W. Wilson Street.
