WINTER STORM WATCHES have been posted for Smyth, Grayson, Tazewell, Russell, Wise and Washington Counties in SW VA. and for Johnson, SE Carter, Uncoi, and SE Greene, SE Cocke, and SE Sevier in TN. and for Ashe, Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, and Madison. Time: 8pm Halloween night through 8pm Saturday. Expect: Rain to change to snow from the higher elevations to the lower elevations as cold air floods into the region with a gusty NW wind of 15 to 30 mph. Moderate to heavy snow is likely for the mountains. Travel: Roads will likely become snow covered and slippery Friday night and stay dangerous in the higher elevations on Saturday. This does include Sams Gap. Snow Accumulations: Will vary greatly according to elevation. Tri-Cities and lower elevations a Trace to 1 maybe 2 in some locations. 2500 feet to 4000 feet 2-5 Above 4000 feet 5-10 Highest ridges could see 12+
