WITH THE COMPLIMENT OF PRESS SECRETARY TO CHIEF MINISTER KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA Handout No.1 Islamabad 10 th July 2013 Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak hassaid that his government t has brought about change, his government has okayed right to information bill that is being promulgated adding that this piece of legislation will lead to a corruption free and transparent governance in the province. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of DFID who called on him here on Wednesday and discussed with him various matters related to the reform agenda of the present provincial government and the possible support of DFID in this regard. The delegation wasled by secretary of state for DFID, Right Hon Justine Greening. The delegation was given a detailed briefing on the change and reform agenda of the provincial government and the strategies to implement the agenda. Besides provincial ministers Yousuf Ayub, Shaukat Yousaf zai and Atif khan, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Additional Chief Secretary, planning and development, Additional Chief secretary finance,secretary health, secretary education and other high ups of the provincial government were also present on the occasion. Mr. Khattak reminded that certain legislation were in the pipeline such as Right to service, conflict of interest, local government, accountability commission and many more. His government has given a clear vision and directionsto put the province towards sustained economic growth, true empowerment of the public and reducing the gap between the rich and the poor through a uniform education system,Khattak said adding that introduction of uniform educationsystem was being meticulously studied, evaluated and analyzed and would be put on ground fromnext academic session. Mr. Khattak hoped that radical stepsbeing introduced by this government would encourage overseas Pakistani and foreign and local investors to rise to the occasion and invest in the province. Rest assured the investors would get maximum dividend. The chief minister said that the legislation his government was introducing would root out corruption and ensure good governance. The local government system would have a far reaching effect at village level where the power would be decentralized which would ensure rapid development ,efficient social sector services and more importantly the people themselves would make decision for themselves. Mr. Khattak said that the independent and autonomous accountability commission would lay hand on everyone and the system cannotbe influenced, adding that peace is essentially required to put on ground the agenda for change. His government is going with a focused approach to enhance thecapacity of police to meet the new challenges and to be able to fight crimes. However, he stressed the need for a national policy for durable peace adding that whatever was taking place in FATA had & direct bearing on the province. Frontier Constabulary would be deployed between the settled areas of theprovince and FATA;maintainedadding that there would be a surveillance system to preampt criminal activities. Mr. Khattak said that working group have been established in certain departments and each working group will be headed by the concerned minister wherein representation would be given toexperts and professionals of the fields and these working groups would evolve strategies to bring reforms in public sector institution. A cell for implementation of their reform agenda has been set up which willmonitor the process of reform. Certain other steps had been taken to integrate all such activities being introduced at provincial level. The CM said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had the capacity to generate 25000 MW Hydel Power generation. Foreign and oversees Pakistani wanted to invest in this sector. We are going for this all out to overcomethe energy crisis in the country. His govt stands committed to revive sick and closed industrial unit through private sector and the government t would provide them this cheap electricity; continued the Chief minister. The foreign delegates appreciated the reform agenda of the provincial government and assured the Chief Minister to extend all possible support and help to the provincial governmentin the implementation of its reform agenda.
