WJHS band ready to hit the streets By Kevin Dye For The Madison Press The streets of West Jefferson will soon be filled with the sounds of Friday nights in the fall as the West Jefferson High School Marching Band begins its annual street concerts to raise funds for its program. The annual street concerts will take place Thursday, Aug. 8, Monday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 13, starting at 6 p.m. until till dusk. The band will perform on flatbed trailers while a few selected students will walk door to door asking for donations. Parent volunteers will walk with the students to ensure their safety. West Jefferson Music Booster secretary Malenie Hadidon and several band members informed village council of the event at the council meeting Monday night and said the annual event raises much needed funds for the band’s activities. “The money raised from these concerts help to pay for band camp and contest expenses such as equipment and instructors,” Hadidon said. The street concert schedule for this year has the band visiting the following neighborhoods: Thursday, Aug. 8, Darby View Drive, Westwood Subdivision, Putnam Avenue and Ohio Avenue, Monday, Aug. 12, Senior Citizen Condos, Merriman Subdivision, downtown side streets and the Converse Park Subdivision, Tuesday, Aug, 13, Taylor-Blair Road neighborhoods, Forrest Lake Estates, Hidden Creek Subdivision and Darby Crest Subdivision. A rain date has been set for Wednesday, Aug. 14. Members of the West Jefferson High School Marching Band thanked the village council and the community for their past support and look forward to their support in the future.
