WONDERING WHAT TO DO WITH BROKEN HOLIDAY LIGHTS? Holiday Light Recycling can be done at the Winnetka Public Works Yards at 1390 Willow Road. The Village of Winnetka offers a year-round light recycling program. All types of holiday lights and extension cords are accepted for recycling at the Public Works Yards weekdays from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. The Village cannot accept garland, live greens, wreathes, or other non-recyclables. Questions about the program should be directed to 847-716-3568. The Village of Wilmette also offers holiday light recycling in partnership with SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County) and Elgin Recycling. Holiday lights can be dropped off at the Wilmette Public Works Facility, 711 Laramie Avenue through Friday, January 30, 2015. Recycling boxes are located in the visitors parking lot accessible 24 hours every day. The program accepts all holiday string lighting (all colors and lengths) including mini-lights, C7 and C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights and extension cords. As with the program in Winnetka, garland, live greens and wreathes are not accepted. Questions about Wilmettes Holiday Lights Recycling Program can be answered at 847-853-7500 or pubworks@wilmette. Additionally, the Kenilworth Public Works Department will be collecting unwanted holiday lights. Residents can dispose of their lights at the Public Works facility located at 347 Ivy Court. There is a labeled collection box located at the entrance to the yard.
