WORSHIP SONG for FRIDAY - I love the fact that God became a man - TopicsExpress

WORSHIP SONG for FRIDAY - I love the fact that God became a man and made His dwelling place among us on planet earth on that first Christmas so long ago. And there are some wonderful traditional aspects of Christmas that I love also. Family gatherings, special times of worship at church, presents, decorations and some down time from the typical routine of life. But like many of you, there are some aspects to the season that really dont affect me positively at all. The consumerism, the materialism, the secularization of the story, the desire to make Christmas some type of observance devoid of Truth and filled with empty tradition. And sometimes even the Followers of JESUS get caught up in the trappings of the season, the trivia of the holiday and the buy, spend, eat, drink and party. And we forget that there are people suffering through their days while the world heaps more and more stuff on themselves. We spend more, we expect more, we eat more, we relax more - everything is done to an excess and yet we still feel incomplete and lacking. Of course the solution is to get right with God and focus on the priorities of worship and giving. Jesus told us that we are more blessed when we give rather than when we get and I have often experienced the Truth of that statement. So how about you and I as HIS Followers making a promise to HIM and to each other? Maybe we can forgo that one extra gift for ourselves or a family member and bless some needy person with something. Maybe we can have a few less sides to our Christmas dinner and donate food to a shelter where people who have virtually nothing will probably spend their holiday. Maybe we could give away that gift that we receive which we may probably struggle to fit in our closet or maybe we could donate some time to a person depressed over the loss of a loved one, a job, a home or something else. They may have things but they could use a shoulder to cry on and someone to value them enough to give them some time. Christmas should be a time of GIVING in honor of the One Who gave us the very best present imaginable - the Son of Almighty God come in human flesh. Follow Gods example and GIVE this Christmas away - its too precious to keep it to ourselves. I wonder what type of impact that might have on someone....maybe an eternal impact!
