WOW! So this is it! Last shift. There is a saying in the Navy that the 2 best duty stations are the one you;re going to and the one you came from. I gather that when you get used to moving every 3 years or so, you loose the sense of tolerance and therefore, the only way you can cope with the disagreeable aspects of your duty station, is to remember the good from where you came and to have hope about your next assignment. Ive been at OPMC over 8 years, far longer than any single assignment in my 20 years in the Navy. Once you are permanently at one place you change. You begin to have some tolerance over piddly things and if you reflect about your career, the grass isnt necessarily greener elsewhere; hence the amount of staff that has left and returned. Sticking it out doesnt necessarily mean compromising your principles. You have loyalty to a job, a company, a corporation and still make them aware of problems directly related to management and/ or lack of. There is simply a place and a time. Your opinion may not change anything but it will certainly identify your character; even if clashes with a manager, foreman, director; integrity carries a lot of weight and in the long run trumps minor flaws. Ive met many people in this last 8+ years and some of you are very dear to me and will always remember and communicate with. But thats human nature, you can;t love everyone but that doesnt mean you cant coexist with civility and professionalism. They even shape you because you recognize whatever you dont like about them, as traits you dont want to imitate. Thank you very much to all because in my quest to raise my wonderful daughter, I have received an life education from every single one of you. For good or for worse you ALL have had an impact in my life and for that Im grateful. Dont ever forget or compromise your principles, in life in general but especially in the job we do. We are charged with peoples well being, that is a gift as well as a huge responsibility. No matter how you slice it, in the end its about taking care of the person, not the numbers. Have a great life and gain, thanks for the memories.
